Why EarView Matters

Millions of visually impaired individuals face significant barriers when accessing visual media. EarView helps bridge this gap by transforming movies into an inclusive experience where every scene, action and visual detail can be understood through carefully crafted audio descriptions.

How to Use EarView

Instructions

  1. Install and open the EarView application on your Android device.
  2. Ensure your device has sufficient battery charge and that the microphone is not blocked or covered.
  3. On the main screen, browse the list of available films.
  4. If the Audio Description track for your selected film has not been downloaded, tap the Download button.
  5. Wait for the download to complete. An internet connection is required only for downloading the audio track.
  6. Once the download is complete, the Download button will change to Open.
  7. Enter the cinema auditorium before the movie begins and select the desired film by tapping Open.
  8. Read the on-screen instructions carefully.
  9. Connect your earphones or headphones for the best listening experience.
  10. Tap the Start Listening button.
  11. The application will use the device microphone to listen to the movie soundtrack playing in the auditorium.
  12. EarView analyzes the audio in real time and searches for synchronization markers embedded in the film soundtrack.
  13. Once a valid synchronization signal is detected, the Audio Description track will start automatically.
  14. The audio description remains synchronized with the movie throughout playback.
  15. If synchronization is temporarily lost due to excessive noise or interruption, EarView will continue listening and attempt to resynchronize automatically.
  16. Keep the application running in the foreground and avoid closing the app during the screening.
  17. Use the device volume controls to adjust the Audio Description volume according to your preference.
  18. After the movie ends, simply close the playback screen or exit the application.

Important Notes

  • EarView is designed to provide Audio Description and accessibility support for visually impaired audiences.
  • The application processes audio locally on the device and does not record, store, or transmit microphone audio.
  • An internet connection is required only for downloading audio tracks. Playback and synchronization work locally on the device.
  • For the best performance, use earphones and keep the device microphone unobstructed.
  • Audio Description tracks are available only for films that have been specifically prepared for EarView.
